Stan Douglas: »Luanda-Kinshasa« (excerpt)

The artist Stan Douglas in dialogue with Miles Davis’ album »On the Corner« from 1972. »What would have happened if the album hadn't been his worst-selling ever? What if Davis – instead of the druggy jams that he made with his touring band – had tried to connect with another youth culture that was emerging in New York at the time? (…) Douglas realized the project in a replica of the Columbia 30th Street Studio, in which Davis recorded all of his studio albums from 1954 to 1981. Two moveable cameras on tracks filmed the musicians waiting, listening, chatting, and playing, as well as their entourage. Miles Davis himself is present in his absence – in Douglas's ensemble there is no trumpeter.«
